IN what was described as the biggest surprise of the mass defection of stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Bayelsa State to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the incumbent chairman of PDP, Colonel Sam Inokoba (rtd), stunned all, yesterday, when he lead over 1000 PDP members to decamp to the APC.

The plot of the fleeing chairman was shrouded in secrecy to forestall distraction, as he had been under pressure to rescind his decision. But he eventually appeared at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sport Complex, venue of the APC reception ceremony, with his fellow decampees.

The former Chairman in an emotion-laden voice told the mammoth crowd that the disposition and leadership style of Governor Henry Dickson compelled them to dump their party and embraced the change message of the APC.

According to him, they are a people of like mind, who have decided to take their destiny into their hands because of the misrule and dethronement of democratic tenants by the present administration in the state.

Col Sam Inokoba (rtd) listed the some of the reasons why he and others dumped the PDP as total failure of party to deliver its electoral promises and dividends of democracy; primitive and undemocratic ways of piloting its affairs and insensitivity to the plight of its members and government officials. Others, he said, are apparent injustice and impunity endemic in the party and failure of the party leadership to resolve issues in the party promptly.

“Our desire to associate with fellow nationalists and those who have the interest of the nation at heart; our belief in the change commitment and desire to change Bayelsa State; our love for our state Bayelsa and the desire to rescue Bayelsans from their cries and agony perpetrated by PDP bad government and our desire to see Bayelsans happy and lift the glory of all lands to her position in the country has compelled us to join the APC” he said.

The former Managing Director (MD) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr Ndutimi Alaibe, and Senator Henieken Lokpobiri, in their respective speeches, assured Bayelsans that the APC will be victorious in the December 5th governorship elections and return the state to its glory days.

How disgraceful! These idiots remind me of the culprit of a bad fart who hurriedly changes his position in the misguided expectation of avoiding suspicion only to be followed by the stench and is found out anyhow. These are not grown up leaders but flawed rogues of the prople.

PDP will need to change from its patriachal sytem of poatronage to a democratic party if it wnats to stop the haemorage of members and remain a relevant political force in opposition.
