Keke Senior High School wins Lagosreads quiz competition

Keke Senior High School, Agege, has emerged winner of the 2024 Lagosreads inter-schools quiz competition, while Festac Senior Grammar School, Amuwo-Odofin and Mende Senior High School, Kosofe, emerged first and second runners-up respectively.

The competition, organised by Lagos State Library Services in conjunction with the state government, had six schools across the six education districts as participants.

Speaking at the event, Director, Library Services, Oyadipe Amoo, said the competition also doubled as an advocacy programme geared towards promoting reading culture among pupils and students in the state.

While lamenting the declining interest in reading, particularly among primary and secondary school pupils, Amao called on stakeholders to urgently address the issue by initiating programmes that would inculcate reading habit in children from tender age.

He emphasised the importance of reading to personal development, and the efforts made by the state government in rehabilitating and restocking the libraries with relevant books.

He lamented that students no longer find reading interesting as they stay focused on social media for unproductive ventures.

The Quiz Master, Ojutiku Morounfolu, commended the students for displaying high level of intellectual capacity at the competition.

He ascribed the feat to their teachers and the state government for their commitment to quality education.

Morounfolu, who harped on the importance of technology in the 21st Century, charged the students to develop themselves so as to remain competitive and relevant.

Representative of the winning school, Oladipupo Precious, said the programme would help in instilling the passion for reading in students.

According to him, “To have the key to success, students must study by reading, because it is a path that gives one freedom, and makes one intelligent.”
