Edema implores residents to participate in ongoing voter registration

The senator representing Ondo South District, Jimoh Ibrahim, said he had withdrawn suit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Ibrahim, who had taken the APC candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the party to the Federal High Court in Abuja where he challenged the gubernatorial primary election of the party, alleged that there was no voting in his senatorial district and a larger part of the state.

Following the suit, executive members of the APC in Igbotako Ward II, Okitipupa Local Council of the state, suspended Ibrahim from the party over alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.

However, Ibrahim, during a briefing at the Senate on Tuesday, said he had withdrawn the suit in deference to President Bola Tinubu, who waded into the issue. Ibrahim, in his statement in Abuja titled: “Presidential intervention and notice of withdrawal suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/588/2024,” said: “The suit is now withdrawn due to the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Meanwhile, another governorship aspirant, who contested the gubernatorial ticket of the APC on April 20, Olugbenga Edema, has appealed to the people of the state to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) ahead of the off-cycle governorship election on November 16, 2024.

Edema said that the electorate’s power lies in their ability to elect the state’s next leader for the next four years.
The former Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC), in a statement made available to journalists in Akure, the state capital, emphasised that each vote matters and would have a direct impact on the outcome of the election.

He, therefore, urged the electorate to uphold the integrity of the electoral system by making informed decisions based on the candidates’ merits and their manifestos rather than succumbing to inducements that could undermine the democratic process.
