With over 20,000 women trained in personal finance and thousands guided on their investment journeys, she is known as the Women Money Cheerleader, engaging a vibrant audience of more than 150,000 people daily on social media. We spoke to Financial Jennifer in the lead-up to the first Guardian Woman Festival, which is being held on March 15 and 16, 2024. The event’s theme is Inspiring Inclusion, and here’s how Financial Jennifer does precisely that.

What does inclusivity mean for you, and how important is it for women to be relevant in your field of practice?
In my world of finance, it’s not just about numbers; it’s about understanding dreams, fears, and aspirations. Inclusivity is about making sure every woman feels seen and heard in her financial journey.

First, I need the woman herself to know that she, too, can and must smash her financial goals. Money knows no gender. In 2021, when MTN Nigeria announced a Primary Offer for people to become shareholders, I seized the opportunity to introduce more women to investing in Nigeria’s male-dominated Nigerian stock market. “Approximately 76 per cent of successful applicants via digital platforms are women, and 85 per cent are under age 40,” MTN reported. We did that! Mission accomplished! This speaks to the importance of having more women relevant in my field. We not only bring unique insights that transform finance into a more empathetic and empowering space for everyone involved, but It’s an inspiration for the woman out there to be more intentional with her finances. When women thrive in finance, the entire industry thrives.

As a woman, what inspires you for success?
An amazing lady once sent me this message, “Jennifer, in case you ever feel down, just know that women you don’t even know are rooting for you, are praying for you, mentioning your name in rooms. You are our poster child. You embody our dreams of an African woman. We want you to succeed”. The thought of breaking barriers for the ones who come after me. I’m driven by the idea that my success can pave the way for other women to dream bigger, achieve more, and redefine what’s possible. It’s about creating a path where every woman’s journey is not just seen but celebrated. And yes, don’t forget the money. Yes, I like money and all it brings, I’m not shy to admit that. Lolz. I wish more women get comfortable with admitting they like money really.

What is your message to women, especially as we mark this year’s International Women’s Day?
Sis, money knows no gender. Every woman deserves to know the feeling and freedom that comes from having your own money and being financially independent. Let this be the year you become intentional with your finances and go harder on hitting those goals. I am rooting for you.

What is your life mantra?
It depends, but whatever I do is guided by constant reminders of God, my integrity, kindness, and joy.
