The campaign coordinator of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Supare, Akoko South West Local Council of Ondo State, Alaba Abbey, has been shot dead. Abbey was assassinated on Saturday evening at his residence in Supare.

He was the returning officer for the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state. Abbey was also the ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), in Ward 10 in the locality.

The elder brother of the deceased, Samuel Abbey, said the assailants struck at about 9:00 p.m. shortly after his brother returned home while relaxing in front of his house.

Also, the campaign organisation, which condemned the assassination, urged security agencies to protect its members across the state. Director of Information, LACO-FS, Kayode Fasua, decried the murder, saying that the deceased was actively involved in campaigning for the election of Aiyedatiwa until his untimely demise.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said that an investigation had commenced to apprehend the killers.
