Women Radio 91.7, Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) and Women in Politics Forum (WIPF) this week organized the maiden edition of their Women Aspirants Summit in Abuja.

Tagged, ‘Working Together for 2019’, the country’s female aspirants gathered at the 2019 General Elections summit and agreed on a deliberate “WomanAgenda” to ensure more women are elected into political posts in the 2019 general elections.

Speakers at the one-day summit included His Excellency, Paul Lehmann, High Commissioner, Australian High Commission, Nigeria; Comfort Lamptey, UN Women Country Representative for Nigeria and ECOWAS; Sentel Barnes, Chief of Party, International Republican Institute; Muhamadu Lawal Nalado, Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council; Adekunle Ogunmola, National Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); Iyalode Alaba Lawson, National President Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Moji Makanjuola, Tosin Dokpesi and Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola

Toun Okewale-Sonaiya, CEO, Wfm 91.7 urged women to vote, campaign, fund and pray for female aspirants to secure more elective positions. Mufuliat Fijabi hoped that more women would be represented in elective offices in 2019, as Nigeria could no longer boast to be the giant of Africa with low women representation in politics and governance.

On her part, Ebere Ifendu, urged men to canvass votes for women, saying that women have always been supporting men’s political ambitions and that 2019 was the turn of women, hence the need for men to support them.

The summit hosted over 150 aspirants from across the six geo-political zones in the country.
