A group, Open Alliance for Civil Society in collaboration with the Open Government Partnership (OGP), has urged Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, to sustain the open governance policy, which was endorsed by his predecessor, Willie Obiano in June 2017.
In a statement issued at the weekend by the Coordinator, Anambra State Open Alliance and Citizens Co-chair of OGP in the state, Chris Azor and Acting Secretary, Dr. Kenechukwu Makwudo, the group offered to partner other stakeholders to support the realisation of open government partnership in his administration, congratulating the new Governor for going through all the huddles and eventual swearing-in, noting that the implementation of the thematic areas of the OGP is key to successful administration.
BESIDES, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), yesterday, urged Soludo, to use his new office to champion the campaign for the release of all illegally detained Igbo sons and daughters, including leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
He recalled that Soludo had said Anambra and the South East could not be built by turning the sword against each other, adding: “Criminality cannot be sugarcoated. This must stop. All the stakeholders must now review the narrative and the action plan.”
In a statement issued in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, asked the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to rally his four other brother governors in Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia to secure lasting peace to the South-East geopolitical zone which is fast descending into another North-East Nigeria.
He expressed sadness at the deterioration of security in parts of South East of Nigeria and deplored the despicable and odious act of terrorism of burning the Country home of the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, which according to the group said, happened because the heads of the security agencies in the South East were beneficiaries from the attacks against Ndigbo.
MEANWHILE, the Civil Rights Concern (CRC), said Soludo was already popular before his election as governor of Anambra State.
Executive Director of CRC, Comrade Okey Onyeka, noted that the group engages with issues of governance to improve service delivery to the people with a view to enhancing their livelihoods and conducted an opinion poll on Soludo’s actions, declarations and popularity prior to his election.
He said Anambra stakeholders, comprising town unions, community and women leaders, civil society organisations, farmers, artisans, traders, education and health sector workers were engaged to rate Soludo’s popularity.
