Abia State Chapter of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) has tasked Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on environmental sustenance, especially waste collection, disposal, recycling/re-use or conversions, among others.
The group in the congratulatory message to the governor signed by the state’s chairman, Dr. Uchenna Onyeizu and Secretary, Ifeanyi Olunkwa, said his emergence was divine, and cited various environmental management policies that needed to be addressed by enforcement.
NES listed some of these to include: protection, reforestation and afforestation of the state’s degraded and virgin forest resources.
“NES is recognised as the premier environmental society watchdog of the environment in Nigeria.
“ As a professional body that is committed to advocacy and actions that would positively engender necessary environmental development within Abia State, NES is willing to partner with the state government to combat environmental issues facing the state,” the group added.
