Group awards scholarships at Spelling Bee competition

Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Spell Africa International (SAI) have awarded six school children with scholarship funds at the 14th edition of the Spelling Leaders Competition.

The competition was held at the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, fashioned to serve both pupils and students in primary and secondary schools respectively.


Amongst the six awardees were George Boluwatife from Pavic International School, Lagos, who emerged as the winner of the Primary category. While Okorodu Passion from Kismet Pillars School Lagos, and Obichijikelo Bruno from Triumphant Cross Schools in Anambra, emerged First and Second Runners-up in the primary category.

Alabi Daniella from Greater Tomorrow International College in Ondo State was awarded the star prize in the secondary category, while Adebayo Omotayo from the same school with the star prize winner, and Falade Blossom from Model Secondary School, Ondo emerged First and Second Runners-up in the same category.

Founder, SAI, Gift Akwejevu, said that the competition was a medium to reach out to and sponsor indigent students across the country.

She explained that “the initiative was borne out of passion to educate the underdeveloped societies to prevent their involvement in illicit activities.”

She also stated, “there are two categories for the competition, basic three to six for primary category and basic eight to senior secondary (SS) two for secondary category.”

The preliminary stage of the competition was held in 19 States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while the finals was held at Covenant University, Otta.

Akwejevu urged the participants saying, “students should stay focused on their studies. Their studies should be their utmost priority and the sky will be their limit.”

In attendance was Deputy Vice Chancellor, Covenant University, Prof. Olujide Adekeye and General Manager, Nigerian Info, Cool FM and Wazobia, Femi Ubong Daniels.
