Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has again stated that he is willing to pay any sacrifice for peace to reign in the state, even if it means giving up his position as the governor.

The governor clarified that the ‘sacrifice’ is not because he wants to gain favour from anyone nor political interest, but because of his genuine love for the state.

Fubara stated this while responding to questions about his recent peace ambassador award during an interview with the African Independent Television (AIT).

He said: “My interest and love for our state is genuine. I’m not trying to say I want to be one man who will be there to decide the fate of all.  No! But let Rivers State remain.

“If peaceful disposition is what is needed to bring more peace, I can tell them to come and take it. It is not about me; yes, I will go but Rivers will still remain.

“So, no sacrifice will be too big for me to pay for the success of this administration.”

He said that his ability to restrain himself during the impeachment saga on October 30, 2023, was a show of maturity.  Fubara noted that there are things he could have done that would have resulted in a “total crisis.” However, his ability to restrain, even when he has the power, shows maturity.

Recall that Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have been in a festering political crisis just five months after Fubara took office.

MEANWHILE, Fubara has ordered for a complete rehabilitation of the Psychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio Akpor Local Council of Rivers State.

Fubara said that the rehabilitation work should commence immediately, pointing out the importance of the health facility to people with mental health disorder and medical students in the state, who use the facility for their training.

The governor gave the directive when he visited to inspect the building of the 44-bed space centre for drug addicts, with another 10-bed space for private patients.

He said: “On my way, I also noticed that the Psychiatric Hospital I knew many years ago is still what it is. I think we need to do a total rehabilitation of the facility. This is to enable it to compete and also meet today’s standard.”
