Firm charges youths on technology potential as winners emerge at awards

A technology company, SystemSpecs, has urged youths to delve deeper into the realm of technology, emphasising the vast array of opportunities and advantages it offers.

The Chairman of SystemSpecs, Ernest Ndukwe gave this urge at the fifth edition of the firm’s Children’s Day essay competition award ceremony in Lagos.

The competition with the theme: ‘Protecting the Nigerian Child from Dangers of Online Technology’ is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for primary and secondary school students.

It is also part of the company’s commitment to accelerate and deepen technology capacity in Nigeria through the nurturing and development of young Nigerian minds as the next generation of critical thinkers and technology leaders.

According to him, when the youths put technology knowledge and experience into practice, it will yield a positive view.
“Your unique perspectives can profoundly shape the world. I join you to continue to read, explore, challenge yourselves and never stop planning. The possibilities to be great are endless when you commit to continue to learn and make responsible choices, especially for your future,” he said.

Speaking about the theme of the competition, Ndukwe said it was a call to action for every person of goodwill to rise to the duty of ensuring that children are adequately protected while they innocently delve into the deep tunnels of exploring and embracing technology’s vast benefits and potential.

He noted that the firm’s mission was that as the youths succeed, Nigeria would be better.
“We continue to be inspired by the increasing number of students in their thousands from all over the country, who take up the challenge to advance their interest in technology by participating in the competition that levels the ground for all irrespective of whether their education is public or private,” he said.

In her keynote address, a tech and business leader, Napa Onwusah, charged the youths to dive deep into technology noting that the world especially Nigeria in 2030 would be filled with digital transformation.

However, she lamented that the biggest challenge Nigeria has in technology was the broadband penetration and 60 per cent increase in cyber attacks.

She decried that the country was sitting below 41 per cent of broadband access.
Onwusah further encouraged the youths to leverage technology and opportunities that come their way to make their dreams come to reality.

The winners in both junior and senior categories were given a cash price of N1,000,000 each. They are Oluwajuwonlo Aletan from Apostolic Faith Secondary School Ibadan, Oyo State in the junior category and Olaoluwasubomi Bakare from Ijaiye Ojokoro Senior College, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos State, in the senior category.
