Messrs Reckitt Nigeria has awarded of N37.8 million seed funding to six businesses that participated in a five-month accelerator programme for innovative and sustainable solutions to address Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
   
The success of the initiative was celebrated during an event held in Lagos to mark the successful conclusion of the programme and presentation of the seed funding to businesses.
   
Head, External Communications and Partnerships, Reckitt Sub-Saharan Africa, Cassandra Uzo-Ogbugh, emphasised the importance of the WASH Accelerator Programme and impact of social businesses to ensure long-term change among communities.
  
She said: “By supporting these social enterprises with mentorship, training, and seed fund, we are addressing immediate hygiene challenges and building sustainable solutions that will benefit communities for years to come.
  
“We have announced the post programme support where for the next 12 months; these enterprises will continue to receive mentorship and hand holding from Reckitt to ensure the success of their businesses.”
 
Also speaking, the Founder of Soso Care; one of the social enterprise owners in the WASH Accelerator Programme, Mr Nonso Opurum, expressed gratitude to the company for the support and recognition received, “The seed funding and mentorship are crucial in helping us scale our solutions and reach the communities in need. I am excited and motivated to continue the amazing work, knowing that we have their backing to create a healthier and cleaner environment for everyone,” he added.
  
The event featured a documentary showcasing the journey and impact of these social enterprises, ranging from sustainable sanitation facilities to reusable menstrual hygiene products. It also marked the 44th anniversary of Reckitt’s Agbara Factory, and the commissioning of the new Jik sachet line.
   
Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, at the event referred to Reckitt Nigeria as a valued partner in the journey towards sustainable development and economic prosperity.

“The presence of the company in our state has created job opportunities, fostered innovation, and contributed to the overall well-being of our citizens,” she said.
  
Also, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended the company’s initiatives, noting that it exemplifies the Nigerian spirit and the unwavering determination of businesses.
  
The Global CEO, Reckitt, Kris Licht, commended the Agbara team for their hard work and impact to the company’s future.
