IN celebration of Nigeria’s 55th Independence Anniversary, leading Lagos-based radio station, City FM, recently unveiled programme lineup for 2015 edition of its yearly show, Salute To The Flag. Creatively designed to take care of Nigerian music and content, with a strategic connection towards Nigeria’s independence, the event, which commenced on September 29, is expected to attract participants from different parts of the city.

Speaking at a media briefing held recently in Ikeja, Lagos, to herald this year’s show, the station’s Head of Programmes Gbemileke Oscar Oyinsan noted that, “Salute to the Flag has been running for 4 years and this year’s edition will be the 5th. This year’s event would run for a period of one week (September 28th- October 3rd), with carefully mapped out programs, which includes an in-studio concert, a CSR day, a celebrity football game as well as an independence concert at the Ikeja City Mall,” he said.

The event kicked off on September 29 with Paint Your City, a new CSR innovation, with Area G Police Command selected for this purpose. The initiative saw celebrities, comedians as well as OAPs of CITY FM join in the painting of Police Command.

As part of the programme, a novelty football match involving celebrities playing against City FM OAPs was staged at the popular Fun Turf in Lekki. The game witnessed an expansion with additional two teams. The teams are City FM OAPs, Actors/Comedians, Artistes and TPL All-Star.

On October First, the Ikeja City Mall came under heavy music, as the FM station staged an open concert for fun lovers. The show paraded upcoming artistes, who got the opportunity to showcase themselves on a big stage and was spiced with comedy, treasure hunt, dance competitions and other fun activities.

Yesterday featured the in-studio concert, entirely dedicated to artiste performances live on air for the whole day. Last year’s event witnessed over 50 artistes and it went on for the whole day. This year’s edition saw other side attractions, with a special orange carpet reception, where artistes had one-on-one chats with journalists within the station’s premises.

The celebration will wrap today with a house party, an evening of fun and games with lots to eat in a private house. The event will be strictly by invitation and celebrities will join their fans to have an awesome time, while side attractions have also been included, with winners of the games to go home with exciting gifts from sponsors.

“This is our own little way of celebrating Nigeria’s independence. As City FM, is it our duty to provide fun and entertainment for Lagosians, which is why we are putting together this programme,” Oyinsan said.
