As a way out of the nation’s socio-economic and industrial challenges which has been plagued by policy inconsistencies, the vice chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Efurrun (FUPRE), Delta State, Prof Akaehomen Ibhaodode has urged governments at all levels to engage in talent hunt in sciences and engineering so as to discover young talents who through their innovations may move the nation forward.

Ibadode stated this in Benin City, Edo state when he unveiled his foundation, ‘The Ibadode Gifted Persons Foundation’ as part of activities to mark his 60th birthday.

The foundation is to identify talented youngsters in the field of sciences and engineering to aid the nation’s development.

He said, “There are many youths around with great ideas but they also need people like me to bring such vision to reality and that has been the motivation behind this foundation. It is unfortunate that most times, our society does not value ideas. But we believe that if we harness these ideas, they can promote the society and the nation at large.

The erudite scholar and Professor of Mechanical Engineering added, “The foundation is a way of giving back to the society. I think I have been blessed in so many ways. The Lord has been faithful not in terms of having so much money but he has given me lots of wonderful ideas, creative and innovative ones at that which I have put to good use.”

Chairman of the occasion, Rev. Mathew Okpebholo, urged the youths to explore opportunities in the business world, saying he ventured into trade at an early age and made success out of it.

There were awards of certificates of outstanding performance as well as an exhibition of various works done by students and individuals.

The most outstanding inventor who bagged the 1st prize, Aghogho Ajimeh designed and flew a mini aircraft that could fly for not less than 1000 feet above sea level.
