The University of Benin Alumni Association, (UBAA) has urged the Federal Government to take proactive steps to forestall incessant strike actions by university and health workers, which may hamper the development of the nation in the long run.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its 91st council meeting held at the banquet hall of the institution and presided over by the president, Sir Ifaluyi Isibor, the association commended the Federal Government for the swift resolution of the industrial disputes with the various unions, particularly in the education and health sectors.

The association, in the communiqué jointly signed by Isibor and secretary, Prof Myke Omoigberale also expressed concern over the security challenges confronting the nation and called on all well meaning Nigerians to support efforts at restoring peace. It also appealed to the government to urgently address the issues to avert crisis in the land.

And as the 2019 general election draws near, the council called for a total reawakening of political leadership to ensure a more enduring practice of democracy so as to create statesmen who are deeply concerned about the welfare and wellbeing of the citizens and the nation-state.

The council comprises members of the current national executive, including all past presidents, and chairmen of branches within and outside the country.
