The National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) of Nigeria has pledged to assist in showcasing some of the innovative biological agriculture solutions developed by multinational Agro solution provider, CONTEC Global Agro Limited (CGAL), to farmers and seed companies for higher farm productivity.

According to its Director General, Dr. Phillip Ojo, who disclosed this when he led top management staff of the council to CGAL lab facilities in Maitama, Abuja, he said he was highly impressed with the banana tissue multiplication using tissue culture technology being explored by scientists at CGAL Laboratories.

Maintaining that the technology would help resolve Nigeria’s food crisis, he pledged that the council would use its forthcoming seeds demonstration to introduce CGAL inputs and products to farmers and seed companies.

He said there is need for both the council and CGAL to create strong synergy through products demonstration so that farmers and seed companies would know exactly how to use the various biological solutions, rather than resort to use of chemical on their farms.

“The demonstration would be nationwide, where some of your products will be demonstrated so that where you don’t have presence we can create awareness for the inputs to help farmers increase their yields using organic means.

“We can also therefore take some of your products, use them and introduce them where your products are not available to create awareness for farmers to see,” he said.

The Managing Director CGAL, Mr. Thomas Chackunkal, who conducted the NASC team round the laboratories and other facilities explained that tissue culture and biological solution are latest technological solutions for the multiplication of high yield organic farm products devoid of inorganic inputs and chemicals.
