‘NASRDA committed to implementation of Nigeria space agenda’

The Director General of National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Prof. Seidu Mohammed, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Agency towards the actualization of the Nigeria Space Agenda which he described as very strategic in the developmental process and programmes of the country.He was speaking in Abuja at the presentation of the Special edition of Nigeria Space Digest, a publication of the Agency at the Obasanjo Space Centre.

The Director-General in a statement signed by NASRDA’s Senior Press Officer, Kaneng Dagyeng, said all hands must be on deck to promote the Nigeria Space programme currently being anchored by NASRDA, saying space programmes are today the most sought after activities by both developed and developing nations because of its unique and modern technologies for growth and development.

Mohammed stressed the need for synergy between the Press and stakeholders in the community of space practice in order to educate the general public and keep them abreast of opportunities that abound in the space sector.

He commended the Media and Corporate Communication staff of the Agency under the leadership of a distinguished media practitioner, Dr. Felix Ale, emphasising that the Nigeria Space Digest which is part of the noble efforts of the strategic arm of the Agency has brought to light the importance of Space Science and Technology as well as various achievements of the space agency.

He described the official presentation of the special edition of the publication as a good way to start the New Year, and therefore called on various heads of departments to take advantage of the good start and engage in projects that would contribute to the space programme in the actualisation of its noble goals and objectives for the overall benefits of the people.

Mohammed expressed delight on the achievements recorded by the Space Agency since inception adding that Nigeria is not only fast becoming the regional hub of space programme in the continent but enjoys a global recognition as one of the emerging space faring nations in the global community.

He therefore called on various centres in the Agency to engage their various expertise in harnessing the human resource of the agency for enhanced performance and promotion of space science and technology for socio-economic development as contained in the law establishing the space Agency.

Also speaking, the chairman editorial board of the Nigeria Space Digest, Dr Halilu Shaba, commended the high level of competence and professionalism brought to bear by the Media and Corporate Communications staff of the Agency in the course of production of the Special edition of the publication.

He said, the special edition, which contained reports from various activity centres of excellence of the Agency has been able to tell the success stories of the Agency, particularly in recent times in a simple language devoid of technical or scientific jargons.

Head Media and Corporate Communication of the Agency who also double as Editor in Chief of Nigeria Space Digest, Dr. Felix Ale, expressed gratitude to the Director General for his support and contributions in the realisation of the cardinal goals and mandates of the Agency.

He said the Space Agency is no doubt a very strategic government establishment in view of its relevance and contributions to activities and programmes of various ministries, departments and agencies of government at the federal, state and local governments.

This according to him calls for adequate publicity of activities of the Agency at all levels for the profound appreciation of its efforts in the full implementation of the Nigeria space road map which has been lauded internationally and described as a model for developing nations.
