Polytechnic council chair tasks institutions on funding
Tertiary institutions have been admonished to brace up to current challenges of funding.
The new Chairman, Governing Council, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), Owo, Ondo State, Barrister Banji Alabi, made this remark at the weekend, during a meeting with stakeholders in the school, to map out strategies for expanding sources of revenue for the institution.
He charged RUGIPO and other higher institutions to borrow a leaf from their counterparts in other parts of the world, who, according to him, are not totally dependent on government for funding and research.
“There is nowhere in the world that institutions of higher learning depend absolutely on subvention from government, like Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. We need to understand that times have changed and, therefore, we must wear our innovation caps towards generating sufficient revenue internally with little dependence on government by optimally utilising our resources.
“Business as usual must be crippled. All departments must think outside the box in this time of scarcity, and ideas must be bottom-up. Great institutions are birthed by great innovator.
