Plateau PDP’s Patriots commends Sheriff

The coalition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patriots has commended the National Chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, for weathering the storm following his appointment to finish the tenure of the North East Zone, and for successfully piloting the affairs of the party thus far.

Chairman of the PDP coalition, Mr. Titus Alams, rising from a meeting of the PDP’s Patriots in Jos, also commended members of the party for their understanding in amicably resolving the knotty issue of the North-East completing its chairmanship slot as well as providing the party guidelines for its Ward, LGA and State Congresses and National Convention slated to commence from April 23 to May 21, 2016.

The Chairman of the group urged all those contesting the chairmanship of the party in the state, as well as those seeking other offices, from ward to national levels, to eschew bitterness and have the overall interest of the party at heart “no matter what happened before, during and after the congresses and convention.”

He assured the PDP faithful that the party will come back to power in 2019 considering the squandering of the goodwill the people of Nigeria gave to the APC in the last general elections.

He pointed out that economic hardship, non-availability of petroleum products, unemployment and reversal of promises are the realities that stared Nigerians in the face.

On the creation of chiefdoms, districts and village areas in the State, Alams advised Governor Simon Lalong led administration to be very cautious as any wrong move may plunge the state into another round of crisis since traditional matters were very sensitive issues.

Speaking on the state of the economy, Alams called on the Federal Government to get an Economic Adviser and experts to help give direction to shore up the per capita income of the nation and to alleviate the suffering of the masses.

An important feature of the Group’s meeting, which took place at the weekend, was the presence of five chairmanship aspirants who had earlier indicated their desire to address the group. The aspirants took turns to present their manifestos.

They included Mr. Damishi T. Sango, former Minister of the Federal Republic; Mr. Bitrus Kaze, former member of the House of Representatives; Mr. Chris A. Hassan, former Commissioner Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs/Works; Mr. Jacob Adikaba, former Chairman, Bassa LGC; and Mr. Jonathan Dabo, also a former Chairman of Bassa LGC.

Alams thanked the aspirants for addressing the Patriots, and promised, on behalf of members, to create a level playing ground for them and those aspiring to occupy other positions in the party.

The coalition condemned “the intimidation of PDP supporters in Rivers State; the continued incarceration of Ekiti State House of Assembly members; the killings and wanton destruction of property in Agatu land and Mile 12 Market in Lagos; the attempt to license Pastors, Clerics in Kaduna State; selective fight against corruption; the use of courts adjournments to deny litigants quick dispensing of justice in Plateau and the hardship Nigerians are facing under the APC.”

However, they commended Mr. Solomon Maren for a job well done after the member representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency in the National Assembly briefed the group on his stewardship.
