The 1990 set of Accountancy Students of the Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), has held a maiden convocation of its members with a view to give back to their alma mater.

Convener of the meeting and Protem Chairman of the executive, Mr. Bola Onifade, in his address at the event stressed the need for members to come home and give back to an institution that shaped their personality a great deal.

He added that already the association has set up a committee to liaise with the heads of department of the institution to consider areas of intervention, so as to enhance academic delivery.

The group, which also extended hands of fellowship to the widows of their late colleagues, also gave plaques to two of their lecturers in appreciation of their contribution to their personalities almost thirty years ago. The lecturers honoured were Messrs. Cyril Oguntoyinbo and Victor Aiminogho Osadolor.

Onifade, who urged Nigerians to identify with their alma mater, expressed confidence that “with massive contribution from alumni groups, teaching and learning across Nigerian schools will be greatly improved.”

Presenting cash award to the two widows Mrs. Olunuga Temitope Victoria and Ogundipe Olubunmi, Onifade said, “Whatever we have done today is to identify with and extend our hands of fellowship to our deceased colleagues’ immediate family. Our aim is to lift their spirit and make them start small businesses of their choice. We equally take lessons from Mother Theresa’s words that ‘I can do things that you cannot, you can do things that I cannot, together, we can do great things.”

Responding on behalf of the widows, Mrs. Olunuga expressed appreciation to the association pledging to make judicious use of the cash award given to them.
