NBC harps on ethics of journalism as academy graduates 329

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has advised journalists to be bold and practice the profession in line with the ethics of the job. Director-General of NBC, Mallam Is’had Modibo, who made this call during the closing ceremony of National Broadcast Academy (NBA), Batch ‘A’, 2017 session in Lagos, enjoined the graduating students to be creative and focused in order to make impact in the broadcast industry.

The NBA, which is a training arm of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), witnessed 329 students graduate from seven departments of the academy.

Modibo, who was represented by the Lagos Zonal Director, NBC, Mathew Okodua, emphasised the need for students to go extra mile of deep thinking to deliver creative reports.

“For those in journalism, you have to be bold and stand on the truth always. Don’t assume, always ask questions so you don’t run your organisation into trouble. Avoid being hostile; you have to be friendly for you to be able to get information.

“You have to be creative, don’t sell ethics to anybody. Your contents must be quality that must hold your audience spellbound. You must know the rules of the game. If you are not creative, you are just ordinary and media houses look for people that are creative so that they can get the job,” he urged.

The Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mansur Liman, charged the students, “You must be good ambassadors of the academy. You should not undervalue the role of a broadcaster in national building and development. The onions lies on the broadcasters as you take seriously your assignments.

The Director of the academy, Engr Abiola Ajibola, said, “Your commitment in the media should change a lot of things; set the agenda for a nation, be a moral builder and change the moral system of a nation. That is what you have been called into. You must be aware of the fundamental truth of the role of broadcasters in national development. Don’t allow the glamour to overshadow what you have learnt from you calling in life which is broadcasting.”

Ajibola advised them to take advantage of various opportunities that abound in social media.

An alumnus of the academy, Frank Edoho told the grandaunts to inculcate the habits of learning daily.
