Nasarawa hosts national Qur’anic recitation contest

ONLY 10 out of over 500 participants from Oyo state will participate in the 30th edition of the National Quranic Recitation Competition slated to commence in Nasarawa on January 7, 2016.

The state Coordinator of the programme, Alhaji Abdulganiy Abdulsalam said in Ibadan that the 10 participants, who emerged from screening exercise that involved six zones in Oyo State of Saki, Ibarapa, Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Iseyin and Oyo, would take part in five categories of the competition. Altogether, the competition has six categories (for both male and female).

He said the Committee in Oyo state had prepared the participants especially the best 10 to represent it at the forthcoming National competition.

He listed the categories as memorisation of Juz Ammah, five Juz, 10 Juz, 20 Juz and the whole Qur’an with its Tajwid (Science of Qur’anic recitation).
Speaking on the eligibility for the contest, Abdulsalam said a reciter must be a Muslim who has memorised part or the whole Quran and must not be above 25 years except the female ones who has no age limit.

He said a participant must not be a child of any of the judges and must not contest for more than one category at the same competition.

Abdulsalam assured the people of Oyo state that the contingent will not disappoint at the national competition as they did in the 29th edition held at Auchi, Edo State where one of the female participants won the overall best in a category. The best in each category will get a prize to go on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, a new car and other gifts from many donors.
