Responding to the nation’s economic diversification, a Kano based businessman, Ali Yusuf Ibrahim, has acquired a multi-billion naira fertilizer company, Aliyu Fertilizer and Chemical (AF & C), with the capacity of producing 1,700 tones per day.

During a facility tour of the company located at Madobi Local Government, Kano, Ibrahim said when launched, the company would meet the fertilizer demand of the 19 Northern states.

“Ours is the biggest blending company. We are assuring government and farmers that we are going to produce high quality fertilizer. And if government can come in and help us, farmers will get it at cheaper rate,” he said.

Ibrahim revealed that his company had personnel that would go round the farmers and educate them on how best they could apply the fertilizer in their farmlands. When asked about difference of soil in farmlands, he disclosed thus: “We are very much mindful about that, that is why we made an arrangement to take care of that. In Northern Nigeria for example, we have six or seven types of fertilizer. At our own level, we can produce five different types.”

On the raw materials used, he stated that they are sourcing for 50 per cent of the raw materials locally and another 50 per cent was being sourced outside the country.

He called on government for support for the development of the company, insisting that such would help the company get more than expected in terms of production target. “Government should not leave us to go in search of foreign exchange from private people. We just received an invitation for business discussions, especially in the area of raw materials.

“I have been into fertilizer business for more than 30 years now. Therefore, I have an understanding of how fertilizer business is. We are only praying that when we start, we would be able to march forward even beyond our expectations.”
