Perspectives of Dipo Fashina’s Scholarship, Activism and Ideology will form a major part of the 70th birthday celebration of Dr. Oladipo Fashina, a senior lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. The event holds today, May 30, 2017, at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University Osun State. Time is 10am while reception is at 2pm at
Ogunbanjo Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University.

A statement by Co-Coordinator ACIS and Secretary JAF, Comrade Abiodun Aremu and Head, Department of Philosophy, Dr. Gbenga Fasiku, said the book project is in honor of Fashina, as National Chairperson, Joint Action Front (JAF) and Co-Chairperson Labour and Civil Society Coalition LASCO), a joint effort of the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School (ACIS) and Department of Philosophy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Perspectives of Dipo Fashina’s Scholarship, Activism and Ideology is a collection of original essays that focuses on the life of Dipo Fashina, a humble, selfless, soft-spoken gentleman, an activist, a unionist, pan-Africanist, revolutionary socialist, humanist, and teacher. He was a former President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). It is a product of the intellectual efforts of diverse authors drawn from various disciplinary backgrounds. The book is the first of its kind to bring together Fashina’s struggles for a better society. It is a succinct presentation of the background, influences, relationships, achievements and challenges of this quintessential public intellectual, and philosopher-academic-activist.

This fascinating publication provides a rich material for anyone interested in the revolutionary transformation of society, for scholars, unionists, critics and the general reading public.
