In order to help stem the tide of festering discords plaguing the country, the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) on Sunday, October 1, launched an advocacy campaign aimed at unifying the country. It was part of a symbolic gesture designed to mark Nigeria’s 57th Independence Day. The campaign known as #StrongerTogether is in partnership with Advertisers Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), media organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

President of the association, Mr. Kayode Oluwasona, said the campaign was borne out of the rationale that national co-existence and development could only be achieved through unity.

According to him, “This campaign reinforces and writes a new philosophy in the hearts of Nigerians that in spite of our differences, we are truly better together and there is no limit to what we can achieve when we lay aside our differences and reach out to one another.”

He described Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups and cultures as its unique quality, saying the need to drive this campaign has become imperative.#StrongerTogether is an appeal to Nigerians to shun all political, social and ethnic affiliations and work together to ensure peaceful coexistence for the betterment of the country.

Recall that several similar initiatives, such as ‘Good People Great Nation,’ ‘Wazobia’ were launched in the past with little or no result. This initiative aims to support government’s previous efforts to achieving the goal of a unified country.

Oluwasona further said, “The AAAN desired to see improved political tolerance, national reconciliation, unity and social cohesion. We are aware of the discord and suspicion along ethnic and religion lines. We believe a transformed political and economic system in Nigeria requires the full participation and commitment of citizens that put the principles of trust, relationship building, love for one another and unity.”

The publicity Secretary of AAAN, Mr. Steve Babaeko, while shedding more light on the campaign, said the association has adopted online platforms to engage with the general public in the conversation for a united Nigeria founded on justice and fairness.
