Lanre Shittu Motors Limited (LSM) has hinged the success of its trucking business on its after sales strategies, stating that the company has made Mack trucks one of the best brands in Nigeria.

Besides, the company also expressed optimism that the JAC trucks will do well in nation’s trucking business even as it says it is ready to replicate the track record it achieved with Mack in the JAC heavy duty vehicles.

This came with the auto company training about 100 truck drivers of a waste management company, Visionscape Sanitation Solution, after delivering some JAC dump compactors and heavy duty trucks for refuse disposal to the firm as part of its support to the cleaner Lagos project.

The Executive Director, Lanre Shittu Motors, Taiwo Shittu, made the disclosures while speaking with journalists in Lagos, after handing over the first phase of the JAC trucks to the waste management company.

He said: “Lanre Shittu is willing to replicate in JAC heavy and light duty truck that track record we have made in Mack truck distributorship. We made the Mack brand very popular and we are willing to do the same with JAC.

“We made Mack to be the best truck in Nigeria. We have been distributing the brand since 2007 in the country. The franchise is no more with us anymore, but we still provide independent marketing and after-sales support.”

He said what stood the JAC brand out from other trucks was its chassis making the vehicles rugged and perform well on rough terrains.

Shittu said JAC heavy duty trucks were about the best from China, and noted “the chassis of JAC trucks is in a class of its own with stronger axles and it ranks among the best available across the globe.”

He also said, “If you check, most Chinese trucks come with one frame, and even if with one frame, the thickness of the frame is not as solid as it should be. But JAC comes with a 12mm chassis and 10mm chassis frame, and in some cases, a 10mm chassis and 8mm chassis.

“Presently, we are delivering the JAC truck heads with 40 tonnes, 35 tonnes buckets, truck heads with long, open-sided body, whereby for the first time in Lagos, trucks can be loaded from the side on the move. That means, you don’t have to wait for the truck to park before you can throw in your waste. So, it is loadable from the back and the sides. We have different trucks for different loading and off-loading applications, including compactors. The advantage of this is that it saves time because this is what could be described as waste disposal trucks on the go.”

Shittu also expressed delight that the JAC heavy duty trucks were assembled in Nigeria, and that Visionscape was committed to patronising quality made-in-Nigeria products.

He, however, stressed that assembling the vehicles in Nigeria did not in any way make JAC trucks inferior, adding, “JAC competes with leading European and American truck makers in terms of quality.”

Shittu also commented on the training of the first set of 100 truck drivers meant to support the new waste management initiative of the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

“The LSM believes in Governor Ambode’s vision for cleaner Lagos and will do everything to be among those people that will drive the success of this project,” he said.
