To brace up on the challenges posed by the society on the judiciary, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade has admonished heads of the various departments in the state judiciary to stay focused and shun any act of corruption.

The CJ disclosed this in her opening remarks at 2016 management retreat for staff of the state judiciary held at the weekend at Orchid Hotel, Lekki, Lagos with the theme: “Leadership through Change”.

Speaking on the theme of the management retreat, she stated that “Leadership through Change” was conceived with a focus to re-awaken their consciousness with a view to achieving desired change in the right direction stressing that “change is constant occurrence in nature. It could aptly be described as a process of transformation or transition from one state, condition or phase to another. Let us all change our attitude for the better of the judiciary.

“To cultivate positive attitude and shun all acts of corruption, including fraudulent practices and dishonest approach to official duties, as they tend to portray the judiciary which you represent in bad light”.

CJ however told them that a lot are expected of them as leaders and team builders in their respective units and departments. “A lot is required of you. Not only are you expected to lead by good examples at all times, it is also incumbent on you to give quality leadership and purposeful direction to your subordinates as deemed necessary from time to time.
“Negligence and willful abdication of duties and responsibilities must henceforth, be a thing of the past”.

“Let me assure you that on our part, we shall not shirk in our responsibilities, as we remain committed and responsive to your welfare, needs and comfort in and out of the office environment.”

She also noted that the retreat underscores the importance of the cadre of staff and the imperatives of a well trained, focused, highly skilled and committed management staff as a veritable stool for sustainable development and enhanced on the job performance”.

“In any organization, be it public or private, the critical role and function of management has remained invaluable. It is at the apex of administrative structure, assisting in formulating policy direction, providing leadership and ensuring equitable management of men and resources towards a purpose driven end.”
