HRAN sets agenda for Buhari
THE Human Rights Agenda Network (HRAN) has made policy and legal recommendations on human rights and livelihood issues to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group said the recommendations are in line with Buhari’s campaign promises which were circulated before his election in March 2015 titled: ‘My Covenant With Nigerians’.
The memorandum which highlights priority areas of intervention according to HRAN was also informed by. Buhari’s request for contributions that could enrich the agenda of his government before he was sworned-in as president.
These interventions areas include access to Justice and Administration of Criminal Justice, women’s Rights, Civil and Political Rights, Socio Economic Rights, Persons Living With Disabilities and Other Vulnerable Groups.
They urged the president to sign the Whistleblowers (Protection) Bill and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Commission Bill as such laws will not only energize anti-corruption agencies but will empower Nigerians to fight corruption.
HRAN also recommend that, the new administration should ensure the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) as the bill will create transparency and reduce the highest level of corruption in Nigeria.
