The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos branch has said the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen will be the Special Guest of Honor at his year’s 2017 ‘Annual Law Week’, which holds on the 24th to 27th of this month and will also deliver the keynote address.

The Lagos NBA week with the theme:“Building and Sustaining a Vibrant Law Practice –Prospects and Challenges”, will also witness a frenzy of activities, which will commence with a prestigious and high profile opening ceremony at the City Hall.

Beyond the business side of it, the Law Week Program has also been carefully designed, according to the NBA, to be a one-stop response to such burning issues and challenges that continue to beset the minds of lawyers and the general public.

Speaking during a briefing, Chairman of the Lagos branch of NBA, Ahmed Akanbi, said:”NBA as an association with about 125 branches spread across the country, the NBA Lagos Branch is the foremost, comprising over 6000 registered legal practitioners.

“The Branch over time, has strived to ensure that it maintains its eminent status within the Nigerian Legal landscape through the organization of novel programmes and initiatives.

One of such programme is its traditional ‘Annual Law Week’, which is primarily designed year in year out to cater for the professional yearnings and aspirations of members of the branch”. He also said as a matter of fact, the law week programme exists beyond the interest of the Bar and the Bench.

It also caters for the professional needs of other friends of the bar who are involved in other fields of human endeavor. It further provides a platform, he said, for lawyers to fraternize and network on issues of mutual concern.

“It is worthy of note, that the Branch has secured partnership with the NBA’s Institute of Continuing Legal Education to award professional credits to participants at the Law Week. Some of the notable topics of the technical sessions are ‘Nigerian Oil Industry Law Reform, Opportunities & challenges’ to be chaired by Mr. Oladapo Akerele (SAN).
