Lagos lifted 1,273 intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for 2018

Out of the 2,100 intending pilgrims from Lagos State, going for the spiritual exercise in Saudi Arabia for this year hajj. 1,273 have been airlifted.

At the meeting with members of the states contingent at the Hajj Camp at the Old Secretariat, Lagos State Commissioner For Home Affairs, Dr AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef who is the Amirul Hajj said the pilgrim’s board would be supported to do its duty.

“ So far Akinwunmi Ambode- led government is doing all within its legal framework to guard against any impediment that may cause unnecessary delay or inconvenience for Lagos pilgrims”, he said.

The airlift, he said would resume on Friday as schedule by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and Med-View Airline.

Those already in Saudi Arabia are busy engaging in different stages of hajj, he said.

“Some are partaking in visitation o historical sites in medina, while others are going for Arabic classes organized by the board, lectures and other enlightment programmes that will position the pilgrims for better hajj.

He assured the intending pilgrims of a stress free hajj

“I am urging you to tolerate one another and remain steadfast in the acquired moral teachings designed to help you perform the hajj rites accordingly,” he said.

The Amirul Hajj advised pilgrims to stay away from sun and take a lot of water while in Makkah, warning that only healthy persons can perform hajj successfully.

AbdulLateef advised those yet to be transported to be calm and assured them that they would all participate in this year’s hajj as their visas had been secured.

He urged them to take necessary precautions against ill health and prepare adequately for the challenges of the pilgrimage.

“They should remember to stay away from the scorching sun and take a lot of water while in the Holy Land”, he said.

He promised that the state would ensure a hitch-free hajj operation by providing the necessary logistics to the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
