‘I will run Ondo as a business entity’
One of the aspirants in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bukola Adetula, has assured the people of the state that the pains they are going through at the moment would soon become a thing of the past when an APC government comes on board.
Chief Adetula, a lawyer and businessman, who was accompanied by over 1000 followers when he visited the State Secretariat of the party in Akure, has formally declared his governorship intention to both the State Working Committee (SWC) and the executive members of the party from across the 18 local government areas of the State.
The huge crowd, which caused a snarl in vehicular movement for more than 30 minutes along the ever-busy Oba Adesida Road, marched orderly into the party’s secretariat.
Addressing the State’s Executive members at a meeting chaired by the state party chairman, Chief Isaac Kekemeke, the aspirant held his listeners spell-bound by his oratorical prowess.
He went back memory lane; comparing seven years ago when the present governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko took over the saddle of governance with N38 billion savings left behind by the late Dr. Olusegun Agagu’s administration in the coffers of the state and now that the state was allegedly over N120 billion in debt.
However, Chief Adetula admonished the people not to lose hope; promising that there would be light at the end of the tunnel and that the bad times would soon be over.
The Owo-born lawyer from the Northern senatorial district of the state strongly believed that he has the experience, exposure and leadership capability to salvage the state from the doldrums, and position it among the wealthiest in the country.
He summarised his yet to be announced eight-point agenda as the total transformation of the state from a political entity to a business economy.
Adetula, who does not consider himself as a conventional politician, re-iterated that the state must be critically analyzed to know how far the state has come since creation and how it was faring at the moment.
The APC aspirant stressed that Ondo State must not be considered as an entity but a business organisation, whose driving force should be profit making as small, medium and large scale business organisation.
He said he would priorities skill performance and functionality, knowledge and experience, coupled with strong marketing values to fully utilize both human and natural resources available for the maximum development of the state.
“I have a strong desire to be part of the change process in Ondo State. I am radically resolved to transform the state from ordinary political entity to a business economy; by attracting local and foreign investors towards massive industrialisation,” he said.
He assured that with him as the governor of the state, Ondo would become an investment hub with great economic activities, resulting employment opportunities and increased income accruing from internally generated revenue.
In response, Kekemeke promised to deliver a free and fair primary election that would lead to the emergence of the party’s candidate. He described APC as parading brilliant aspirants with Adetula as one of the best.
