Award winning actress, Rita Dominic, leads the cast in Blessing Egbe’s latest feature movie, One Room. In this interview with CHUKS NWANNE, she spoke on her experience and how she got emotional on the set of the movies, which will be released directly on the Internet.

Tell us about your role in One Room I play Ada, a heavily burdened house wife on a mission to finding fulfilment in her five-year-old marriage. She becomes increasingly desperate and takes a path uncommon to many to fulfil her quest.

What made you chose to do the movie?

The story and the role are different from anything I’ve done. At first, I could not connect to the character as I found her actions strange and unrealistic. However, I spoke to the writer/director and she hinted that this story is true life based. That made me very curious to know more about Ada, share her experiences, see life as she did and basically be her vessel. I thought it would be nice to work on a feature film with a female director again; this is the second time I’m working with a female director.

Did this role pose any peculiar challenge?

Yes, it was quite emotionally challenging and draining. I remember one particular emotional scene that left me in tears, even after the director had yelled ‘CUT’. In fact, the director and a few more people started crying…. let’s just say it was a very emotional day on set for everyone

So, how did you overcome it?

This is something I have done for years; I have a process for dealing with these kinds of situations, but it also works well when you are working with a director, who understands and appreciates your work. There are some directors, who don’t appreciate an actor’s process, but Blessing Egbe is not one of them; she actually came and held me and said a prayer for me. She also gave me time to run through my process before continuing the shoot.

What was your experience working with Blessing Egbe?

She’s delightful to work with and is very clear with her directions. As a producer, she is very organised. We have very few ‘actor’s directors’ in this industry and she’s one of the very few.

What do you consider to be the most significant reason for which Nigerians should watch this movie?

It’s a story of love, perseverance, patience, hope, faith, forgiveness and I believe many adults can connect to the story. It has a stellar cast and the producer/director is known for telling these kinds of stories very well
