UNN 1997 class of doctors build N20 million student refectory

The class of medical doctors, whose reunion after 20 years of graduation took place inside the Dentistry hall of the college of medicine, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu State at the weekend also awarded scholarship to three brilliant medical students of the University.Each of the three students, Onyishi Uchenna, Enebeli Gratus and John Steven, would receive a cash of N100,000 every semester for their school fees and upkeep.

The scholarship committee, comprising Dr. Chima Oti, Dr. Obinna Anikwe and Dr. Esther Okafor, officially presented the students the award.Addressing the gathering, spokesman of the group and Dean, Student Affairs, at the college of medicine, UNN, Dr. George Ugwu, said the 1997 class had set out not only to make history, but to impact positively on society, adding that the construction of a modern students refectory and the award of scholarship to three medical students were just the beginning of many things to come.

In a joint statement presented at the occasion, the chairman of the Re-Union Committee, Dr. Kelechi Okoli and chairman of the local organizing committee, Dr. Anazo Madu, commended the University administration for the progress recorded so far, adding that the institution could still be better than it is at the moment.Responding, the vice chancellor, Prof. Chukwuma Ozumba, said that the institution had witnessed massive improvement in infrastructure, staff training and research since his appointment more than four years ago.

Also, the provost of the college of medicine, Prof. Uchenna Nwagha, his deputy, Prof. Bond Anyaehie and the Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Felix Chukwuneke, were among the personalities who attended the historic event.
