Polio: LG to immunise 11,900 children in Jigawa

Gwaram Local Government Council of Jigawa on Monday said it would vaccinate no fewer than 11, 900 children against polio in the ongoing immunisation programme.

The council’s Information Officer, Malam Nasiru Yusuf made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Yusuf said that the council has received enough doses of Oral Polio Vaccines for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He explained that the children would be immunised against polio and other child-killer diseases during the five-day exercise.

The council spokesman said that 612 trained ad-hoc staff would conduct the immunisation exercise.

According to him, the Manager, National Program on Immunisation in the council, Malam Muhammad Datti, said that the council had provided 100 cartons of sweet to woo children for the exercise.

Yusif added that the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Alhaji Umar Ilu, had expressed satisfaction with the turn out of children since the commencement of the immunisation.

He said that the chairman had urged parents to bring out children yet to be immunised, to centres close to their respective communities to safeguard their wards against killer diseases.

The spokesperson said the LG boss also commended traditional and religious leaders in the area for their support and cooperation to the smooth conduct of the exercise.

NAN reports that the current round of the polio immunisation for the month of March, was flagged off in all the 27 local government areas of the state on Saturday. (NAN)
