Nigeria postpones world drug day to July 4
This year’s International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has been shifted to July 4, 2017 due to the Eid-El-Fitr public holidays. It usually holds June 26 every year.
Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah made the disclosure while unveiling the programme of events to mark the day and called for strict parental supervision of children and wards in the prevention of drug abuse.
His call re-echoes the theme for the global event: “Listen First: Listening to Children and Youth is the First Step to Help Them Grow Healthy and Safe.”“We all have responsibilities in the control of illicit drug production, trafficking and abuse but the point of emphasis this year is on parents and guidance. As the first line of intervention, parents must talk to their children about drugs,” he said.
