Ambode sacks abandoned vehicles committee, others
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday sacked members of the Abandoned Vehicle Committee (AVC) and the Park Monitoring Committee (PMC), both headed by brother of the former governor, Oladosu Fashola.
Ambode in a statement expressed his appreciation to the chairman and members of the two committees for “their invaluable contributions of keeping the highways and roads free of all abandoned vehicles.”
It would be recalled that the 16-man committees were constituted by former governor, Babatunde Fashola in 2011 during the leadership crisis in Oshodi and Isolo motorparks.
The committees were mainly to takeover affairs in trouble-prone garages and those that violate environmental laws, as well as ensure that “miscreants do not operate in the parks, alcoholic drinks, beverages and narcotics are not sold in the motor parks and that all illegal dues in the parks are stopped.”
Confirming the sack order, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Oluseyi Whenu, advised members of the public, especially the transport union, associations and the monitoring public not to transact any business with any member of the two committees on behalf of the State government.
