As part of its commitment to assist and uplift the poor, Grace Schools recently awarded scholarship worth N1.6million to five indigent students in the society. While three of the beneficiaries got N500, 000 each, two others were rewarded with N50, 000 each.

At the ceremony, which held at the school hall, the Administrator, Mrs Tokunbo Edun explained that the event was in honour of the late founder, Chief Grace Bisola Oshinowo, and a move to immortalise her legacy by giving the less -privileged students the opportunity of having a sound education.

Edun, while eulogising the qualities of the founder, who doubles as her mother described the late Oshinowo as “a great philanthropist who lived a life of service to mankind.

She said, “In the year 1968, against all odds, mama founded Grace Schools and since then, it has been a success and great example for the community”. “I sent my spies to check the scholarship aspirants to make sure that people who actually get the scholarships are those who are really deserving of it, because at a time, even people who could comfortably afford to go to school were vying for the scholarship”

The beneficiaries were Quareed Olamilekan Abdulramon, Ezekiel Oluwafemi Oluwatimilehin and Precious Umem Ibanga. While the two others who won N50, 000 each were Joshua Chinma Ukaka and Oluwashola Adam Akinwale.

One of the beneficiaries, Oluwatimilehin, who spoke with The Guardian expressed appreciation to the school for the opportunity and promised not to disappoint his benefactors for the confidence reposed in him.

He also urged his colleagues who are struggling to actualise their dream not to give up, saying at the right time, help will come their way. Some past beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme, Akan George and Lamidi Semiu who were also at the event lauded the school for the rare opportunity.

George, who received the scholarship between year 2007 and 2010, later proceeded to the university of Lagos {UNILAG} where he obtained a first class degree in Chemistry. He is presently undergoing the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) scheme in the school.

While lauding the initiative, George said the scheme not only helped in achieving his academic dream, it exposed him to other opportunities.

On his part, Semiu who received the scholarship award between 2004 and 2007, said he equally got support from the school while studying in UNILAG and he is presently a staff of Grace Schools.
