Govt co-sponsors cancer awareness campaign
The state Deputy Director, Public Education, Mrs. Omowumi George, disclosed this yesterday at the opening of a week-long breast and cervical cancer awareness campaign by a non-governmental organization – Inanna Foundation – in collaboration with Diamond Bank, Fidson Pharmaceuticals and Ikeja Golf Club.
The state government, which is partnering with the Foundation, lauded it for volunteering to be an agent to bring the gospel of good health and wellness to the people of the state, especially the vulnerable ones at the grassroot.
The Foundation’s General Manager, Mr. Theophilus Izobofolo, in his comment, commended the state government for its support, especially in the area of technical manpower, which according to him, is very strategic to the attainment of the objectives of the programme.
The state government is supporting the health awareness campaign with 20 health personnel made of medical doctors and some health educationists and also giving out several hundreds of medicated free eyeglasses.
Mr. Izobofolo said the exercise was not solely on cancer but also included tests on some non-communicable diseases as well as tests on HIV status, cholesterol and blood pressure levels
He said the Foundation decided to embark on the awareness campaign because of its belief that prevention is better than cure, stressing that it is more profitable and less costly for people to know their status especially in some of these non-communicable diseases.
