Clerics of both religions – Islam and Christianity have been urged to encourage peaceful co-existence among Nigerians through preaching.Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode gave this admonition, Thursday, last week in Lagos at the presentation ceremony of the book: Ahmadiyya Movement-In-Islam, Nigeria 1916-2016: A manifestation of Da’wah to mark the centenary anniversary of the group, held at the Multi-purpose Hall of University of Lagos Mosque.

Represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdulateef Abdulhakeem, the governor commended the contribution of the Ahmadiyyah Movement-In-Islam to “socio-economic development of Nigeria, especially on education, as reflected in experts plying their trades in various sectors of the society.”

According to Ambode, “the movement, from their various programmes and activities in the last 100 years of existence, has remained committed, walking the talk reflected in its great motto: ‘Love for All, Hatred for None.”

He urged other religious organisations to emulate the strong attachment of Ahamadiyyah to promoting global peace.President of Ahamadiyya Movement-In-Islam, Nigeria, Alhaji L. A. Adebiyi said the book project is commissioned “to give a compressive report of all that transpired in the 100 years, since the inception of the movement to assist the reader to judge whether or not the aims and objectives of the founding fathers were realised.

“Unfortunately, the organisation is now a shadow of its past. It survives today in three groups: Ahmadiyyah Movement-In-Islam, Nigeria; Anwar-ul Islam Movement of Nigeria and Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamat,” he said. “In spite of numerous interventions by well meaning persons and organizations to broker peace, little has been achieved by way of reconciliation and cooperation among these organisations.”

Prof. Abdul Fattah Badru, commended the effort of the author, Dr. I.A. Musa who, according to him, captured the centenary narrative of the group through the author’s crisp and incisive study and report that illuminates 100 years of Ahmadiyyah Movement-in- Islam, Nigeria.

“One hundred years is a milestone in any organization or association, any of such organization or association that has weathered the storms for that century especially in plural and multi-religious societies as epitomized by Nigeria will indubitably have rich history and be a good source for historiography and epistemic interrogation and analysis.” The launch witnessed large turn out of dignitaries from far and near to felicitate with Ahmadiyyah Movement-in- Islam on the occasion of its centenary feast.
