When you hear the word, Oguta, what readily comes to your mind? No, not the lake! What comes with the lake? Right! Fish, lots of fresh fish; and especially catfish, as Bunmi takes us on a magical ride to the Obodogirigiri of Nigeria itself.

When you hear the word, Oguta, what readily comes to your mind? No, not the lake! What comes with the lake? Right! Fish, lots of fresh fish; and especially catfish, as Bunmi takes us on a magical ride to the Obodogirigiri of Nigeria itself.

Apart from being home to critical historical national figures like Justice Chukwudifu Oputa and Senator Arthur Nzeribe, Oguta also boasts of the second largest fresh water lake in Nigeria. After getting the Obieze’s blessings, Bunmi meets up with Tonia in her boutique and they both head out to the Nkwo market which happens every four days.

How do you tell a lake-grown fish from a pond-bred one? Are there nutritional differences or just that physical difference? Do you know the importance of picking out fresh green Uziza leaves for your Nsala soup? Bunmi and Tonia answer these questions in their conversations as they shop for goat meat, red pepper, yellow pepper, crayfish, local herbs, Uziza seeds and of course fresh fish, for the pot of Nsala soup they later devour with pounded yam. Such a yummy site!

Did I mention that the ladies were joined by Tonia’s husband and daughter at the table? And then walked in Clem Ohameze of the pre-Nollywood days! How more orgasmic can it get? Apart from watching Nsala made the Oguta way, you will enjoy the scenery and culture of the great people of Oguta, Imo state.
