How Nigerian artist, Light San started music during Covid lockdown

Meet Light San, the Nigerian artist whose musical journey defies the narrative.

Meet Light San, the Nigerian artist whose musical journey defies the narrative. Unlike those who claim a certain age or family influence as their starting point, Light San immersed himself in various music genres, evolving from a keen listener to a dynamic creator.

Hailing from Delta State, this artist, also known as Chris Arinze, found his calling by sneaking into sessions at his godfather’s studio, even when initial support was lacking. His musical energy, once considered a distraction, now fuels his mission to inspire authenticity.
“I possess a childish presence most times because I feel that’s what makes Light San, Light. The bright aura so I just want to encourage people to never lose that Light,” says the artist, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself.

Revealing the impact of lockdown on his musical evolution, Light San expressed, “It was an ignored talent till the lockdown gave me a chance to create more and discover myself musically.” The artist began releasing music as part of a group in 2020, transitioning to a solo career in 2021. Notably, in the same year, his group opened for Reekado Banks at the Bole Festival.

Light San’s entry into the spotlight began with a song titled “Reform Nigeria,” created with friends to address the toll gate massacre. Proficient in Afro swing, drill, and Alternative R&B, Light San embraces versatility, firmly believing that an artist should evolve with each song.
Collaborating with St Huddi on projects like “The Ep” in 2022 and “The Come Up Playlist” in the previous year, Light San is carving his niche in the industry. His music resonates with a unique blend of styles, echoing the belief that monotony has no place in art.

When asked why people should care about him and his music, Light San reflects, “Because gems like me are mostly only appreciated after we’re gone. I feel my music and path are the best places to look for such character development.” In essence, Light San invites you to embrace his vibrant aura, urging everyone to keep their inner light alive.
