The Exquisite Magazine #SMEARIT campaign continues with 500 women to be screened free on the 16th of September at the EMAC Smearathon 2017 in partnership with Access women network and the W community.

Exquisite Magazine annual Cancer SMEARATHON (walk, workout session, free screening and networking) 2017 sponsored by the Access Women Network is going to hold on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Muri Okunola Park, Lagos, from 7am. Exquisite Magazine in a statement noted: “We are calling everyone to join us for this walk for cervical cancer prevention and inviting all women who have not been screened to take advantage of the free screening session, which is being provided for 500 women. Registration for the walk can be done at www.exquisitemag.com or call 08098886184.

“It is that time of the year again for Exquisite magazine annual walk for cervical prevention, this year, we are calling it the SMEARATHON. A day of Cervical cancer awareness, all day free screening mixed with early morning walk and work out sessions by Maje Ayida, Sandra Osaigbovo and Seun Fadina.

“Cervical cancer is killing women at an alarming rate in Nigeria and we are constantly working on raising more awareness and educating on preventative methods for this form of cancer that is preventable and treatable when detected early. Our drive is to get women screened, children vaccinated and spreading the word THAT EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES.”

Every year the Exquisite Magazine Cancer Care Foundation has been able to screen people free of charge for cervical cancer and they aim to help raise more awareness for cancer and highlight the importance of early detection and treat people who present pre cancer cells.

Activities include: Brief talk on cervical cancer; walk and workout session; SMEARathon screening exercise (free screening to all in attendance for Cervical, Breast); and Distribution of fliers, Music and Entertainment, Friends networking, refreshments and many more.

Cervical cancer is the cancer of the cervix. The cervix is located at the neck of the womb. Cervical cancer is one of the very few cancers that presents a pre cancer stage before the cells becomes cancerous, that it why cervical cancer is preventable through regular screening and treatable if pre cancer cells are discovered early. In Nigeria, one woman dies every hour of cervical cancer, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) reports.

“Exquisite magazine is the founder of the SMEARIT campaign and the organizers of the EMAC Walk. Every year the Exquisite Magazine Cancer Care Foundation has been able to screen people free of charge for cervical cancer and we aim to help raise more awareness for cancer and highlight the importance of early detection and treat people who present pre cancer cells.”
