Honda showcases electric car ahead of 2019
Plans to phase out diesel, petrol vehicles
Honda has revealed a small city full electric vehicle, as part of plans to move away from Petrol and diesel vehicles. But the car will be exclusive to Europe beginning from 2019.
Showcasing the concept at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, the auto was credited with delivering an unlikely star of event, with its 1970s and 1980s-inspired Urban EV city car.
Automaker has also announced that every car it sells, particularly in Europe from 2025, would have an electric or hybrid option in the range.While the company said two-thirds of its new car sales across the world would be electric by 2030, it has lowered the target to 2025 in Europe.
About the new car, Chief Executive Officer of Honda, Takahiro Hachigo, told journalists at the unveiling ceremony that: “This is not some vision of the distant future. A production version of this car will be here in Europe in 2019.”
The automaker is expecting EV sales to account for about four per cent to five per cent of the total market in Europe by 2019.The new vehicle is sporty with big wheels and tech-loaded features, including cameras instead of side mirrors.
With an interior designed to give a feeling obtainable in a lounge, the car came with A-pillars that offer unique look and visibility.
