VC identifies teachers’ capacity building as panacea for effective delivery
The Vice Chancellor, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, Prof. Ayandiji Aina, has said that to enhance teachers’ performance, government and stakeholders in the educational sector must train and re-train teachers.
Speaking at the 11th matriculation of the institution in Lagos, on Wednesday, he noted that the imperative of teachers’ capacity building could not be over emphasised.
It would be recalled that the Kaduna State government recently sacked some teachers, following their inability to pass a competence test. Aina said to forestall this, teachers should make learning a lifetime affair.
He urged government to provide funds to private universities. He said grants could be used to build research centres to facilitate learning among Nigerians and their counterparts abroad.
The guest speaker, Pastor Johnson Kalejaiye of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, urged the students to be diligent, noting that a hard working person can outshine a talented person, if the latter is lazy. He implored parents to cooperate with the church to bring about positive change in the lives of youths.
