Students appeal to politicians for peaceful elections

Students of Davsol Model School, Iyana Ejigbo, Lagos, have appealed to politicians to eschew violence in the forthcoming elections in the country.

Speaking at the campaign in Lagos, in conjunction with City Changers, principal of the school, Mr. Ugochukwu Stephen, said the aim of the rally was to urge all parties, key players in the political environment and their supporters to give peace a chance.

They called on political leaders in the country to drop every unpatriotic attitude and withdraw from plots that have the capacity to lead to war, while allowing the fear of God to reign in the country.

He said the placards borne by the students, which bore several messages, was their own way of lending their voices to other well-meaning Nigerians on the need for a peaceful election as against acts, which could lead to the disruption of their education.

Also, one of the student from one of the partnering schools- Divine Salvation Comprehensive College, Ejigbo, Mercy Akanbi, said, ‘’All we plead and ask for as Nigerian students is free and fair elections in order for there to be peace in the country.

She also appealed to all eligible voters, to vote wisely and stay out of trouble during and after the elections, in order to avoid violence and a breakdown of the law.

Akanbi, urged eventual winners to pay immense attention to the education sector, and also pay teachers’ salaries regularly in order to stop the sector from collapsing.
