Kano varsity partners foreign institutions to boost learning

In line with the mission of its founding fathers, Kano State university of Science and Technology, (KUST) Wudil, has concluded plans to strengthen national and global linkages with foreign universities and research institutes to build a world-class centre in the country.

In line with the mission of its founding fathers, Kano State university of Science and Technology, (KUST) Wudil, has concluded plans to strengthen national and global linkages with foreign universities and research institutes to build a world-class centre in the country.

Speaking at the 2017/2018 matriculation ceremony of 4,618 new intakes in the university, the vice chancellor, Prof Shehu Musa said the management has advanced teaching and learning in the university to meeting the modern Information and Communication Technology, which is in tandem with the vision of its founding fathers.

Prof Shehu said the institution has constituted three technical committees that would fast track the establishment of faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy and Veterinary sciences to widen the scope of its academic program and meeting high demand of student’s admission.

Apart from the three new faculties that will be established, the vice chancellor said 18 academic programs currently being run in the university have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).He added that the university has concluded plans to engage 15 foreign professors from Egypt and Pakistan to strengthen the manpower capacity and enhance academic excellence.

According to the VC, two management teams who went on the recruitment exercise to Egypt and Pakistan have penciled down 15 reputable scholars that will join the services of the university effective January 2019.

Speaking on the choice of foreign professors, the VC said the preference was in line with international best practice of universality of academics. He explained that university education is no longer ranked base on its locals but rather on the ability to globalise human resources.

“ The recruitment of the 15 foreign lecturers which was authorised and funded by the chancellor of the university, Alhaji Aliko Dangote is already concluded and we expect by first of January, the full academic work will start. We have engaged professors with specialty in agriculture, engineering and other science fields.

“ Apart from agreeing to pay their salaries for the next 15 years, Dangote has also provided accommodation for the 15 professors to make their stay in Nigeria conducive. The chancellor has concluded all arrangement to connect the university to national integrated power and that will end the challenge of power facing the institution for years”. VC said. He added that the university has signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with five institutions in Egypt on exchange program for academic staff and students to pave way for cross versatility of teaching and learning.
