Organisers of the 2016 ‘Cowbellpedia Secondary Schools Mathematics TV Quiz Show’ being sponsored by Promasidor Nigeria Limited has announced that the qualifying (written) examination will be conducted nationwide this Saturday, March 19, 2016. The company stated that thousands of entries have been received and processed from various schools across the country, and urged applicants as well as their schools to visit the website, www.cowbellpediang.com ahead of the examination date.

According to schedule, each school is expected to present its best 10 candidates (five from JSS3 and five from SSS2), irrespective of sex, religion, tribe or state of origin, to enhance their chance of qualifying for the next stage of the competition.

Head of Marketing, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Mr. Festus Tettey, (this year’s competition will be in two stages, the qualifying (written) examination and TV quiz show), informed that the written examination will be conducted nationwide by the National Examination Council (NECO). Tettey said the company is partnering the examination body in this year’s edition to widen the reach to participants across the country.

Managing Director of the firm, Mr. Olivier Thiry, commended officials of NECO, state Ministries of Education, school principals and teachers, including other partnering agencies for their continued support for the initiative over the years. He said Promasidor, in this year’s edition, has taken a strategic decision to bring all Mathematics intervention activities by Cowbell under one umbrella -COWBELLPEDIA.

He added that the company significantly increased the prize money for the finals for both students and teachers, as top prizewinner in each category would receive N1 million in addition to other prizes, while the teachers would be awarded N400,000.

According to Thiry, “All these improvements are to underscore our effort to provide a credible platform that discovers, recognises and rewards excellence in Mathematics, a critical component of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in Nigeria.
