He is an erudite professor, equipped with substantial academic and administrative experience and competence. His unique sense of responsibility, originality and unusual capacity for sheer sustained hard work typically make him volunteer to do extra work which distinguishes him from others who labour hard under normal duty. His colleagues and students attest to it that he has strong analytical and principled approach to issues with huge capacity for problem identification and solving.

Skilled in project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, committed to efficiency, thoroughness and timeliness and has good listening disposition.

The amiable person who fits into the above description is no other than Professor Anthony Durojaiye Ologhobo, a professor of Animal Science at the University of Ibadan. His academic journey to become a worldwide recognise scholar and expertise is worth sharing to inspire many who will be reading about him.

Born in the city of Ibadan, the achiever started his elementary education at King’s College, Lagos for his secondary and post-secondary education. He gained admission to the University of Ibadan where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Analytical Chemistry and Doctorate Degree in Animal Nutrition and Feed Toxicology from the same University.

His quest to get to the top of his career made him return to the four walls of the classroom and was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Farm Management at the American Farm School in Thessaloniki and Postgraduate Certificate in Agricultural Technology at Hohenheim, University in Stuggart.

This brilliant, conscientious and hardworking academic giant is a worthy product of the University of Ibadan. Ologhobo’s working career started as an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Basic Studies at Ahmadu Bello University before having a stint in National Cereals Research Institute at Moore Plantation as a Senior Research Officer. After completing his Doctorate programme he joins the academic staff of the University of Ibadan as Lecturer II. He rose through the ranks and in 1991, he became a full professor.

At present, he is a consultant to The Honeywell Group Limited and had previously consulted for the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA on the use of Nuclear Techniques in Feedstuff Detoxification. He was a guest lecturer in seminars and programmes such as: Embassy of the United States of America in Abuja, IAEA regional training course in Cairo and several others.

Ologhobo enthusiastic passion for professionalism goes beyond academic prowess but more in-depth to his love for the environment which tells in his area of study. His research interest are; Animal Nutrition and Feed Toxicology, Animal Feeding System, Effects of Environmental Pollution and Climate Change in Animal Production and the Use of Natural Resources in Plants to Enhance Environmental Protection of the Ecosystem.

As an international scholar, Ologhobo has won many fellowships and grants and worked in laboratories in different parts of the world. He is an accomplished authority in anti- nutritional and toxicological evaluation of topical feedstuffs and his research works are quoted internationally. In recognition of his immense contribution to scientific knowledge, he was selected among notable world scholars in the Marquis publication of “Who is Who in the world” and was also selected among 2000 outstanding people of the twentieth century by the International Biographical Centre of England.

Ologhobo’s pursuits for academic excellence in the University saw him stamped out examination malpractices in the General Studies Programme as a Director. He was responsible for reorganising and restructuring of the unit as well as changing the curriculum of the various general studies courses for optimal performance. More to his achievement is the idea of initiating a permanent building for the programme. He was at the end honoured with an award for his invaluable services by the university.

Gone are the days when people assume that teachers’ rewards are only in heaven. Ologhobo is a rear gem, dedicated and committed to contributing financially to education of many young Nigerians who can’t afford the luxury of education was rewarded with a new Kia car by a giant telecommunication company in Nigeria few months ago. “This is a gift from God. I was not expecting anything from MTN. I was told to come and present some gifts to my students. I am surprised to have been voted for by the students in the MTN Surprise Your Professor Campaign at the University of Ibadan”. He said.

Advising corporate bodies to promote academic excellence and reward the moral rectitude of deserving dons.
