CMD of LUTH tasks graduands on training, professionalism

The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos, Prof. Chris Bode has charged graduating students of the school to go into the society and train others while also being the best they can and holding firm to what they were taught.

He made this charge last week at the Joint Graduation Ceremony and Presentation of Prizes of the institution, where 366 students from eight schools- School of Health Information Management, School of Medical Laboratory Science, School of Medical and Psychiatry Social Work, School of Nursing, School of Midwifery, School of Post Basic Nursing, School of Basic Dental Nursing and Community Health Officers Training Programme were awarded Diploma Certificates and prizes given to outstanding students.

Speaking at the event, the CMD instructed the students to produce others who will be better than them. He informed them that with the quality of training which they have received from the institution, they should be able to utilize it to the benefit of the society and become good ambassadors of the institution.

He said: “Go ye and multiply; go and train others and be the best you can. You’ve got very good training and you; make the most out of it and the sky will be your limit. You must reproduce yourselves; you must produce others who will be better than you. You must work to the best of your ability and always remember where you came from. You are our ambassadors and you mustn’t let us down.”

Bode disclosed that the institution trains for other institutions and other West African sub-regions. He noted that the training which the graduands received from the institution is quite commensurate with the one any other person receives from any internationally acclaimed institution.

According to him, the student went through a lot of principles on their way to be found worthy of the school’s certificate. He pointed out that not all that enrolled for the programme were able to scale through the rigours.

“If we could tell them that we certify them worthy of bearing our name; being called graduates of this institution, we are confident that the sky is the limit for them. They will do well.

This is not the first time we’ve been doing this and we know the feedbacks we’ve been getting where our graduands are practicing. We are more than confident that they will do well wherever they find themselves in life,” he said.

He further added that the more of these specialists which the school produce, the better the quality of health care in the country, noting that this is what they should do as part of their contribution to the healthcare development of the country.
