AFRICAST 2016 opens tomorrow in Abuja

The 11th edition of the biennial international conference of African broadcasters tagged AFRICAST will open tomorrow, October 18, 2016 at the Abuja Sheraton Hotels and Towers. With Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting: the imperative of Financing Quality Content as theme, the 3-day gathering is expected to draw the participation of about 1000 participants from over 30 countries from Africa, America and Europe comprising broadcasters, policy makers, content producers and equipment manufacturers (local and foreign) among others.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the facilitator of the conference has therefore implored all stakeholders to fully explore the opportunity to engage and network during the biennial conference.

In a statement signed by the NBC Head, Public Affairs, Mrs Maimuna Jimada, the conference, which started in 1996, was described as an investment platform and a market place of ideas and materials.

The highlights of this year’s edition include exhibition of cutting edge digital broadcast equipment, presentation of conference papers, a 3-day master class in collaboration with C25 Nigeria and discussions around topical issues in the industry.

The airwaves regulatory agency underscored the significance between the maiden edition in 1996 and the 2016 outing, saying, “the first edition coincided with the deregulation of the broadcast industry, while this edition is coming at the threshold of the digital switchover.”
